Our driver will pick you up from your hotel/residence in Nairobi and set off as you drive to Kibera Slum -Africa’s largest slum. You meet your local guide a Kibera born and raised resident, who will walk you through unmarked streets and narrow alleys; passionately narrating to you stories about the resilience and ingenuity of a vibrant and multi-faceted Kibera community. Be sure to obtain first-hand insights into the authentic daily life in the Kibera people on a tour that enables you to learn more about the local community’s way of life and the history of Kibera slum. Once part of one of Africa’s most developed cities; you will get to understand why at stands apart to be nicknamed the “City of Hope.”
The tour takes 3 to 4 hours including 2 to 3 hours walk and can done in the morning or afternoon. You will be able to visit different places including an orphanage or a school, Meet impressive group of woman and look at their local work artisans, visit a bead factory where everything is being recycled including bones from the butcher. See how these bones turn into beads and finally end up into the shelves as beautiful pieces of art providing livelihoods to thousands of locals here. You will also have a chance to visit a typical Kibera-house to experience the hospitality around here as you interact closely with the people getting all the answers to the questions that you may have first-hand. Finally, times allowing you will also have an opportunity to visit the biogas center for a fantastic view over Kibera on an aerial view and-a perfect picture-point- as you also get to see how human waste is not wasted here.
