Our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Nairobi and set off as you drive heading to the base of the Ngong Hills, where you will enjoy hiking a series of the peaks along this mountain ranges that resembles the Knuckles of our fist. Along the way our guides will help you learn about the history of the place and the local inhabitants –The Maasais. Enjoy wonderful double views of the Nairobi city to the left as well an aerial view of the spectacular scenery created by the the Great Rift Valley formation aftermath to the right. The hike up Ngong Hills starts from Ngong town at the northern foot, 1,961m above sea level, with highest peak at 2,460m, and traverses the whole range to the southern end at Kona Baridi. The majestic mountain ranges are famous in many historical aspects; including Karen Blixen’s film “Out of Africa”. Her lover Denys Finch Hatton was buried along the hills and the story was that Karen could see the grave site from her house. This exciting hiking tour takes about 4 to 5 hour to complete and will help you unlock your physical and mental potential amidst fascinating features and landscapes of the legendary Hills.
The first kilometer from Ngong Police Station is a gradual ascent through human settlements until you get to a barrier indicating the start of the Ngong Hills forest reserve. From here on, you go past a wind farm, before climbing the first steep hill leading to an area populated with Radio repeater station masts.
The trail thins out and descends into a trough before emerging on to the next steep hill. Just when you think the worst is over, the rolling hills seem to keep popping up, with each taking its toll on you. Thankfully, the views all round are magnificent, making the effort worthwhile.
On a lucky day, you are likely to encounter buffaloes on some of the hills in the higher altitudes of the ranges. Your tour will end at 14:00 hrs as you reconnect with your driver on the opposite to drive back to your hotel.
