MT KENYA TECKING CHOGORIA ROUTE
Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met by our representative at the JKIA who will continue to take you on a seamless transfer to your city hotel to unwind. Immerse yourself in a vibrant urban rhythm of the leading metropolis city in East Africa as you wait to embark on your extraordinary safari the following day. Depending on your arrival time, you may choose to participate in city excursions which can be organized for you upon request.
Overnight at The social House (Std Room) BB
Depart from Nairobi after breakfast, driving north through the greening agricultural countryside farmlands to arrive in Chogoria town early afternoon. After lunch, a further drive by 4x4 takes you to the edge of the bamboo forest where your hike starts. After completing with the park authorities, You hit the trail on a 10 Km trek through the dense bamboo forest up to Mt Kenya Bandas. The forest can be dry and dusty, or muddy in the rainy season.

After breakfast and sorting porter loads, we set off up the mountain at a nice and easy pace soaking up the beautiful views up to the Chogoria road head. From here, it’s a detour with a descent from the route crossing a stream (stemming from Lake Ellis) on to Nithi Falls. Enjoy your picnic Lunch at the banks of the stream, then a short ascent to get to Road Head Camp at an altitude of 3300m walking approximately 3-4hrs. You then continue hiking from Road Head Camp for 1hr, following the track in the forest and giant heather to arrive at Lake Ellis, through Mugi Hills between the Gorges Valley, up through the Nithi River. You will then reach Lake Ellis Camp for the night, 3650m.

After your early breakfast, we set out with our picnic lunch boxes on our journey through the heather and moorland following a ridge up the mountain towards Camp Mintos to join the main Chogoria tourist track at an altitude 4,100m. You will choose to enjoy your lunch break amidst breathtaking views over the Gorges Valley and the Northern Moorlands before continuing for a further hour to the Mintos Hut area at 4200m.
The afternoon is spent relaxing at camp, though a 10-minute walk takes you to the "Temple" - a 150 meters vertical cliff overlooking Lake Michaelson that derives its name from the position adopted by when peering over the edge - they look as if they are praying A hike to Lake Michaelson, which is around 2 - 2.5 hours return is as well worth the effort .
We will have our early dinner retire in readiness for attempting the summit push to Point Lenana in the wee hours of the night.

Leave at 02h00, for predawn attempt, ascending up across bare rock and scree slopes characteristic of the alpine region up to Pt Lenana - the hiker`s summit at 4985m, An early ascent guarantees us magical views of sunrise at dawn from the summit. Set yourself to take it all in as far as the eye can see: Simba Tarn, Harris Tarn, Square Tarn, Hanging Tarn, and the view across the divide. We will then descend to Austrian hut( Top hut) for breakfast before a further descend to Mackinder’s camp for relaxation and overnight.

After breakfast, we go clockwise climbing up to Two Tarns and Nanyuki Tarns, and then pass between Oblong and Hausberg Tarns before descending to Shipton's camp on the Northern side of the peak, at about 4200 meters for dinner and overnight
After breakfast, we begin a 5-hour descent via Mackinder`s valley to the Old Moses camp (3,300m). The descent is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery which includes the moorlands before reaching the camp for lunch. After lunch transfer back to Nairobi arriving late afternoon.
